The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Tsveta Karayancheva welcomed the participants of the Plenary Meeting of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (Plenary COSAC) during the official dinner on 18 June 2018. It marked the end of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The guests were greeted with a rich traditional cultural program - the performances of the “Slavei” quartet, the children from the National School of Folk Arts in the town of Shiroka Luka and the students from the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov".
“We say goodbye, but not farewell, because the doors we opened, the messages we sent and the positions we defended showed the world that “United We Stand Strong”” said Ms Tsveta Karayancheva in her speech. She added that these words were not just an inscription on the facade of the National Assembly chosen also for a slogan of the Bulgarian Presidency, but the legacy of Khan Kubrat, the ruler of ancient Bulgaria, who, by the example of a bundle of sticks, showed to his sons that together they were invincible.
The speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament also emphasized on the fact that the Cyrillic alphabet, the third official alphabet in the European Union, was the sacred literary work of the brothers Cyril and Methodius, who were proclaimed by the Pope for co-patrons of Europe.
