The mechanisms for transition to energy from renewable sources were discussed by parliamentarians at the Energy Forum within the Parliamentary Dimension of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Europe must have sustainable energy supply. This was stated by Franz Pschierer, member of the Energy Committee of the German Parliament, during the meeting of the Chairpersons of the Energy Committees of the EU Parliaments. The forum is within the framework of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

According to Franz Pschierer, by 2022 Germany will phase out the use of nuclear power and will shut down some of the coal-fired power plants. This transition must not harm our competitiveness, said the representative of the Energy Committee in the German Bundesrat. He said that EU Member States’ policy is linked to their national characteristics on the road to clean energy transition. The goal is to undertake a positive approach to energy efficiency, continuity of supply, added Franz Pschierer.

The member of the Romanian Senate, Silvia-Monica Dinica, presented her country's experience in the transition to renewable energy sources. Romania focuses on safe, sustainable and affordable energy, she said, and added that EU countries should also focus on reducing global warming.

The Deputy Energy Minister Jecho Stankov said at the meeting that the EU's efforts towards a transition to renewable energy sources should serve as an example for its international partners. This transition should take into account the needs of the industry and of the citizens, and during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, Bulgaria has the opportunity to listen to all interested parties, added Jecho Stankov.
