With the debates held today, national parliaments have shown that they will not compromise on security. This was stated by the Chairman of the Committee on Internal Security and Public Order Tsvetan Tsvetanov at the closing of the Meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol.

Tsvetan Tsvetanov thanked all 207 participants in the forum for the constructive dialogue and achieved consensus on the Rules of Procedure of the joint group. I can guarantee on part of the Bulgarian delegation that by participating actively in the Presidential Troika, we will fulfill our commitments with respect to the Rules of Procedure, he added.

The Chairman of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs in the European Parliament, Claude Moraes, invited parliamentarians from Bulgaria, Austria and Romania, in the framework of the Presidency Trio to start working on the Rules of Procedure of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol. He stressed that the Presidential Troika should set up a task force and propose recommendations for the Rules of Procedure for 2019; it should discuss the importance of language diversity and the corresponding financial needs of Europol, as well as develop guidance on the procedural issues of Europol. Claude Moraes expressed his gratitude to the parliamentarians for the agreement reached on the Rules of Procedure of the joint group and personally to Europol Executive Director Rob Wainwright for his good job at the head of the agency.
