The Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) is an inter-parliamentary platform for debate on EU actions in the areas of foreign, security, and defence policies. The conference has been taking place in this format since 2012.
The Inter-parliamentary conference is part of the Parliamentary Dimension of each Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The conference is organized twice a year by the Parliament of the EU Member State holding the rotating Presidency of the Council in close cooperation with the European Parliament. In Bulgaria the conference will take place for the twelfth time on February 15-17, 2018 in Sofia. The conference is hosted by the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Defence Committee.
In accordance with the rules of procedure of the conference, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy is invited to present before the participants the current EU priorities and objectives in the field of CFSP and CSDP.
The Inter-parliamentary conference is a platform for maintaining the dialogue and cooperation among national parliaments and the European Parliament. It creates a framework for exchange of information and good practices in the area of CFSP/CSDP, and provides an opportunity for parliamentarians to contribute to the implementation process of these policies.
